Why Kids Need This
Children who fear rejection avoid trying new things, making friends, and speaking up. Left unaddressed, this becomes the adult who never asks for a raise, never shares an idea, never puts themselves out there.
Teaching rejection comfort early is one of the most valuable life skills a parent can offer.
Age-Appropriate Challenges (6-10)
1. Order their own food at a restaurant 2. Ask a store employee where something is 3. Introduce themselves to a new kid at the playground 4. Ask the teacher a question in front of the class 5. Compliment a friend on something specific
Challenges for Tweens/Teens (11-16)
1. Ask to join a group already playing a game 2. Raise their hand to answer a question they're unsure about 3. Ask a teacher for extra help without feeling embarrassed 4. Start a conversation with someone new at school 5. Share an original idea or opinion publicly
Make It a Game
Frame it as a family challenge — everyone does one "brave ask" per day and shares the story at dinner. Celebrate the attempt, not the outcome. A rejected ask is a winning attempt.
