🌙 The Stoic Evening Review: 10 Minutes That Transform Your Life

Every great Stoic practiced an evening review — reflecting on the day's actions, learning from mistakes, and preparing for tomorrow. Here's the modern version.

The Ancient Practice

Seneca wrote: "When the light has been removed and my wife has fallen silent, I examine my entire day and go back over what I've done and said."

This evening review is the most powerful self-improvement practice in Stoic philosophy. It's how you learn from every day instead of just living it.

The 5-Question Review

1. What did I do well today? (Acknowledge your virtues) 2. What could I have done better? (Honest, not harsh) 3. Did I waste energy on things outside my control? (The dichotomy check) 4. Did I act with wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice? (Virtue score) 5. What will I do differently tomorrow? (Specific intention)

This takes 5-10 minutes and compounds dramatically over weeks.

Why It Works

Without reflection, you repeat the same mistakes daily. With reflection, each day becomes a lesson. After 30 days of evening review, you've had 30 coaching sessions with the wisest person available — yourself.
